Plagiarism Policy
The Journal of Pericardiology (JOP) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical publishing. Plagiarism in any form is considered unacceptable and is strictly prohibited. All manuscripts submitted to the journal must represent the authors’ original work and must properly acknowledge the contributions of other researchers.
The journal follows international publishing ethics and encourages authors to ensure that their manuscripts are free from plagiarism before submission.
1. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism refers to the use of another person’s ideas, words, data, or research findings without proper acknowledgment or citation. This includes presenting previously published work as one’s own.
Examples of plagiarism include:
- Copying text, figures, or data from other publications without proper citation
- Submitting another author’s work as one’s own
- Reusing substantial parts of previously published work without acknowledgment (self-plagiarism)
- Improper paraphrasing of published material
Any form of plagiarism violates the ethical standards of scientific publishing.
2. Plagiarism Screening
All manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Pericardiology may be checked for similarity using plagiarism detection software during the editorial review process.
If significant similarity or unattributed content is detected, the manuscript may be:
- Returned to the authors for correction
- Rejected by the editorial office
- Subject to further investigation according to publication ethics guidelines
The editorial team evaluates similarity reports carefully to determine whether the overlap is acceptable, properly cited, or constitutes plagiarism.
3. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submissions are original and free from plagiarism. Proper citation and acknowledgment must be provided for all sources, data, and previously published material used in the manuscript.
Before submission, authors should carefully review their work to ensure that:
- All references are properly cited
- Direct quotations are clearly indicated
- Previously published figures or tables are used only with permission where required
- The manuscript represents original research or analysis
4. Actions in Cases of Plagiarism
If plagiarism is identified before publication, the manuscript may be rejected and returned to the authors for explanation or revision.
If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the journal may take appropriate actions including:
- Issuing a correction or retraction of the article
- Informing the authors’ institutions or funding agencies if necessary
- Restricting future submissions from the authors for a defined period
The Journal of Pericardiology reserves the right to take appropriate editorial action to maintain the integrity and credibility of the scientific record.
